In March 1915 Great Britain ordered the construction of 19 small monitors, under the Emergency War Program. Like their larger relatives – already under construction - they were designed to make use of artillery pieces scavenged from spares or taken “second hand” from decommissioning cruisers. They w...

Thanks for all the praise. :D Here are the final two. They depict Fram as she appeared during her third journey. This time she sailed under Roald Amundsen to Antarctica, where Amundsen would become the first person to reach the South Pole. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lurian/Shipbucket/Fram/sv_fra...

Well, there was some exaggeration on the axis. I’ve reduced their diameter down to one pixel wide.

Based on my sources (I’ve got 7 drawings, and they’re not entirely in agreement :? ) the forward axes are about 50% lower than the keel.

This is Parson’s “Turbinia”, the world’s first steam turbine driven ship. She was powered by a three cassing steam turbine set which drove nine propellers on three shafts at 2200 rpm. The ship reached 34 knots. Her single rudder was somewhat offset to port. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lurian/Ship...

OK, I’ve reworked the planking to a less obtrusive. There’s also an additional version displaying how she would appear during the drifting periods of the expedition. Her yardarms and gaffs would be taken down. The deck covered by a canvas. Propeller and rudder would be retracted to avoid damage. A w...

Well, this turned out to be a little more complex than the ships I’ve done before. This is Fram as she appeared during Friedtjof Nansen attempt to reach the North Pole (1893-1896). http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lurian/Shipbucket/Fram/sv_fram_1893.png http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lurian/Shipbucket...

My current Project is a sailing ship. I’ve got the hull, equipment, masts and stays sorted out. However, I’ve wasted all Sunday afternoon - a very rainy Sunday afternoon - trying to get the shrouds right :x. That is trying to get them "reasonably right" while still looking good . The problem i...
