It's such a shame that the 1920 Lexington class never came into being. It would have been interesting to see how they fared.

Hello all. I was advised that this May be a better place for our discussions on Battlecruiser designs and disasters. The rules in this thread are just be polite. Observe the rules of engagement and no name calling. Any and all discussion about late ACRs and battlecruisers are welcome.

Well, I really think that Jackie Fisher was a victim of erroneous thought. He had the right idea about single caliber main armament, but being the biggest didn't mean having the best. Not one German ship ever exploded in battle and all German battleships and battlecruisers sank with their shafts tur...

That attitude got 3 battle cruisers sunk at Jutland and destroyed the Hood and almost destroyed the Prince of Wales. Any ship is vulnerable to any unplanned weakness. Look at the oklahoma and West Virginia at Pearl Harbor. Even when rebuilt 6 or7 torpedoes at once is not what is prepared for.

It often amazes me with as air minded as the Germans were in both world wars that they were not that concerned with building a naval air arm.

If I may interject a small historical comment here, in Friedman's illustrated design history, he describes the early plans for battleship reconstruction. These plans included 6" triple turrets in the reconstruction as well as Maryland type masts and fire control tops. I have to admit I often wonder ...

In theory, yes she was to scout ahead of the fleet, however there was never any real understanding in the British Admiralty what to do with them after the found something. If you will recall Beaty's squadron of battle cruisers was ordered to join the van of Jellocoe's dreadnoughts at Jutland and nea...

Hello all! I have enjoyed everyone's take on the Incomperable. I still have many reservations about the deployment of such a beast. First, in the line of battle she will be hounded by any cruiser with 6" guns or bigger. Those big clubs of hers can't swing and load too quick. Second, if any capital s...

The schematic is very nicely done. I bet the bet the end result will be the same thing that happened to her 3 cousins though. She will get turned into an aircraft carrier, and her guns will be mounted on fire support ships like monitors. I have a question however, what kind of programs are you using...

While I will admit that there is something to be said for increasing the caliber of the main armament, the only things that those type of ships are good for are "cruiser killers", and commerce raiders. If a ship with any armament larger than a 6 inch gun gets near her, the Incomparable stands a good...
