Interesting! it does not follow the original plans exactly, right? (the shape and dimensions of the flight deck seem to differ, if I see it correctly) The plan from the very first post in that Modelwarships thread/link is only a "preliminary" design only. It was never finalised. That is the ONLY of...

Figured some people here might like to have a look at this. It's a model project I am currently working on. Converting an Iowa battleship to aircraft carrier, circa 1940's. Let me know what you think. ;)

Sorry for gravedigging my own topic again. I just want to say that I did finish this project and wanted to come back here and post the results to share with others. You can read Post #'s 236 and 238 here on Page 16: http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,35600.225.html .......and also...

Ok, after reviewing the instruction pages again as well as doing various research, I've come up with the following. Let me know what you think. I'll keep all the round "dome" comms, but may put them in different areas/positions on the ship. Page 28 REMOVE: J2, J62, C10, C17, RAM & Seasparrow launche...

C17 complex is RAM, and the Sea Sparrow box launcher behind it C42 complex is SLQ-32 Already leaving those off. ;) My inclination would be to leave basically all comms, but that's a tricky subject. You mean keep all the round "domes"? "page 29" - Both air search sets and their platforms Remove or k...

My apologies for gravedigging a really old topic, particuarly my own, but I could use some help/opinions and I really didn't want to create a new topic on the same subject which is about LHD hospital ships. I am well on my way to creating a "what if" LHD hospital ship in 1/350 scale which is convert...

I am out of here. you will do whatever you want, or so it seems at least. I (we) have said our reasons why not at least 2-3 times now. it was interesting to think about, and interesting to discuss, but if you want to build it, just do it, and don't ask for our reasons why we would not do it. Your s...

The only reason I'm building a model of a LHD hospital ship......is for FUN! I've had the idea for a long time and I want to try it out. I hate building model kits straight from the box. I always like to look for new things that nobody has ever done or seen before. Face it: You see the same tank, sa...

So I've been reading the posts I've missed and the Pros/Cons of having a well deck, smaller boats, using a smaller amphib ship, etc., etc. Using a larger LHD (and/or other similar ship) amphib ship just makes more sense. Think about it: * Larger flight deck than the U.S. Navy MERCY class hospital sh...

I'd like to add more personnel/utility boats alongside the ship's hull, but am unsure where to put them. So I need some suggestions (and/or drawings) and ideas. Well... you've got a nice big well deck that should surely be easier for transferring litter patients than winching boats up to the main d...
