Thanks Shippy2013, I had never heard of that system before. Reading up on it, it is a good observation platform. One of the drawbacks I noticed was a lack of long range radio (having a range of over 62 miles (100 km)) and also its not big enough to carry a laser designation system. With the range of...

Navansha class fire control. At present none of the seven turrets share a common height above water. This makes for a fire control nightmare. All of the turrets will take different times to load due to the different length of shell hoists from magazine to turret. For each turret to fire the same dis...

Howdy Adam, Thanks for your comments, however the way the 4.5" turrets are is fine. One of the reasons the UK was slow to go to superfiring mounts was the difference in fire control times. The upper turret always will be slower to load by the height of the extra length of hoist, and also by the slig...

Sorry JSB, But the open mounts on UK ships were purely weight/cost considerations. Since the UK held itself up as the shining light for keeping within Treaty restrictions, it was forever fighting the weight war in size and armament to displacement restrictions, which most other countries ignored. On...

Thanks Shippy, That takes care of that. I can see it working on a cv with 30 knot winds over the bow to take off into. But they wont work off a helo deck cruiser. So they will have to go. Pity, the idea of having an integrated spotting service was nice while it lasted. RP1, So I do not need any extr...

As Heuhen has pointed out not all ships need to fire their big guns directly forward. Also remember that most mountings have blocks in place that stops a mounting from firing into a dangerous direction. Like your own ship! Like the interuptor gear stopped aircraft blasting off their own propellors. ...

Thanks for all your helpful comments. Some more than others. Some I have no understanding of what is required - outside my knowledge level of the systems. I will not be removing the 15" turrets. They may not be of much use in todays environment, but that was not why I made the ship as it is. With th...

Ok - same hull as before, but maybe a bit overgunned. So go to a DP armament. I've kept the hull the same to keep the hangar and cross deck catapult. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/hazq62y5hkr80h0/HMS_Inconstant_CL-1936.PNG This gives both the CL / Super DD type armaments while still being of a...

I was originally going to name it Inconstant after a cruiser in one of JE Macdonnell's books, but my fingers slipped :P

I too have tried small 6" cruisers in the past, for what I will describe as heavy weather nations. For that reason I keep the main and secondaries in turrets, no open mounts till the AA. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/36g3p3j1jw9a4ag/HMS_Incontinent_CL-1936.PNG This does give a cruiser about th...
