I keep feeling like I'm trending towards several AUs. But this one is pretty reasonable. This is, as I see it, about the minimum reasonable FFG of tomorrow (as in, literally tomorrow). Whatever doors might eventually enclose the liferafts, they should be part of a low-observable structure that stands proud of the side of the ship. One does not wish to cut a million little holes in a structural shell.

On the contrary, the British went some ways towards designing a common Ikara/Sea Dart launcher. The key is that while the launcher was common, the magazines were entirely different (Sea Dart loading from below and Ikara from behind). I am still looking for the relevant references.

Every USN carrier since the beginning of forever has had a (emergency) conn right forward, underneath the forward edge of the flight deck. For whatever that's worth.
