Container ships usually carry their side lights forward since the superstructure is narrower than the container load. As in the port and starboard running lights? Where are they typically mounted? Hull? Bridge wings? since he said forward... bow. But as I belive they should be mounted on the bridge...

they would propably do as much changes to the hull as the Norwegians did to Oslo class that was based on a Dealey class. where they gave it a more flater underwater hull, and flater stern and a bigger bow/above water hull, than original

and Fridtjof Nansen class was build to handle minimum 300 tons of ice on deck, so since you operate in a warmer climate, it should be that big of a problem, you are not going to experience that "everyday" thick ice... on the deck

wasn't North Carolina-class original designed as a quad 14" turret design, that could be changed to 16" triple turret version, if Japan didn't play nice.
