Did the Fleet Air Arm retain the roundels with red centers
as late as 1944? It's a small detail, but I don't remember any
photos of RN aircraft with anything other than blue/white
roundels after 1943.

Were the French Avisos built for trade protection, and if so,
would they be part of this category of vessels?

Thank you for this. There is something powerful
looking about this ship, even though it is a non-
combattant. Great Job!

This is great! The drawing is very crisp and bright - the
details really show. However, if I understand SB rules
correctly, shouldn't the AA rocket mounts near the
funnels be trained(pointed) fore and/or aft, instead of
broadside?

I very much appreciate all the work the various artists have done in this category. Most books will illustrate only the most famous ships (Bismarck, Hood, Yamato, Titanic, Aircraft Carriers, some Cruisers, maybe Lusitania or Queen Mary I or Queen Elizabeth I). The vast majority of ships on the high ...

This ship is beautiful, but also menacing in appearance.
I really like the color scheme - it is very striking.

I find it interesting that the RN Queen Elizabeths (and the R Class, for that matter) were not modernized to be exactly the same. The USN South Dakota class were each given a different AA refit in 1943. Since Navies are large organizations run by a few senior people at the top, one would think that ...

One last thought on nautical archaeology: why is it O.K. to dig up a roman tireme or a galleon or even a ship from the 1700's in the interest of recovering gold or silver, or ancient jars of wine and olive oil, etc., but somehow it is sacreligious to disturb the remains of sunken ships from only the...

I have read that Jellicoe's famous (or infamous) turn away from the German torpedo attack was included in a letter of intentions he sent to the Admiralty in 1915. His cautious nature was known in the highest circles of the British govern- ment. Admiral Beatty was given the lion's share of the fame f...

Do not worry about odd spots of color on your hull. As I understand it, hulls were routinely spot painted to cover up bare/rusty areas, and the new paint was always lighter or darker than the old paint. Unless the SB rules require "like new" paint schemes, your ship could be weathered from serving a...
