Submarines of the Armada Española

Several artists have already drawn submarines of the Spanish Navy, but more are waiting.

Submarine Isaac Peral (A-0)

The Issac Peral A-0 was the first of the Armada Española (Spanish Navy) after Isaac Peral's prototype of 1890.

Submarine E-1

The E-1 was the prototype of the German type Ia. Built in Cadiz by private initiative of Horacio Echevarrieta, the Spanish Navy tested it but did not purchase for political reasons. Was sold to Turkey who named Gür.

Very little information is available about this ship, just a dozen poor quality photographs. It is based on a drawing by Darth Panda, changed according to the photos.

Class D Submarine D-1

The three D-class submarines were the worst of the Spanish Navy. Designed before the civil war, their construction was delayed, and the poor quality of the materials made them very dangerous. The D-1 (later called S-11) was the worst and was not modernized, and was used only for instruction... with some panic.

Submarine S-22 (D-3)

The D-1 (renamed S-11) was not modernized because of its poor qualities, but the D-2 and D-3, which were in better condition, were updated with American help, and employed from 1963 for instruction, being renamed S-21 and S-22. The S-22 was the first to be retrofitted and to return to service.

Submarine A-1 Narciso Monturiol

After the A-0, ordered to USA, Spain purchased from Italy three units of the Laurenti class called A-1 Narciso Monturiol, A-2 Cosme Garcia, and A-3 (no other name)

With Yqueleden's kindest permission I have the honour to add my drawing of A-2 Cosme García to this excellent thread.
In 1931 this submarine was offered to the Polish Navy, which was more extensively described here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=10283&p=201228 .
