In the first half of the 20th century Sweden was one of the leading countries in merchant ships design and had some very famous shipyards, known for their quality and speed of delivery. These yards were the main suppliers of ships to the growing Swedish merchant shipping. Most of these companies were building motor ships. One such company was the Rederi A/B Transatlantic, which was operating mainly as Svenska Sydafrika Linjen, on a regular service to South Africa as well as Australia.
One such ship was the m/s Hammaren which entered service in 1930, but was sunk by the German U-Boat U-507 on 31 July 1942, one of 10 ships the company lost during WW2

Once the war had ended the British merchant marine needed a very large number of new tonnage, to replace those ships that were lost during the war. Many shipowners tried to make do with wartime standard ships, but these were often warn out by war service. The South American Saint line contracted for three new modern motorships, one of which was the St. Essylt

Beautiful subject and beautiful drawing. Novice doesn't fail to bring refreshingly real but underloved ships to our attention.
I would also like to know what is up with the black section, and to offer some hair-splitting criticism, I noticed some stray pixels next to the subtitle, and I feel that the tension of the aerial running both masts looks weird.

The reason for that is unknown to me.

Good catch on those stray pixels, I had an anxious moment finding it ...
The tension of the wire between the mast is also fixed and looks better, even to me ;)
As for the black section ... seems we'll have to see if some member here can explain it :?
