As mentioned I was involved with some kind of a project, and here is the first ship.
The SS Maui of the Matson Navigation Company, was built in 1917 as a passenger and cargo ship for the San Francisco Honolulu service. In 1934 the ship was converted to cargo only, but here she is with all her glory

Novice, what a splendid rendition of the MAUI! If I am not mistaken, she was the first engines-aft passenger liner built.

Not exactly, as the honors go to the Wilhelmina which was an earlier, smaller version, than came the Lurline, Matsonia and Manoa (not in that order).
And yes contrary to popular belief, the Southern Cross and North Star (Shaw Savill & Albion) were not the first engines aft passengers liners

The Hamburg-Sudamerkanische flagship from 1922 to the outbreak of WW2 in 1939, she was sunk in 3 of May 1945 by RAF aircraft while loaded with labor-camps inmates and concentration camps along with some Russian POW, 5000 in all, and only 350 survived the sinking

What a nice surprise...here I was thinking it wasn't going to be a big liner! :) She was also used to film on-board scenes of Germany's wartime production of Titanic.
