Iona III's life was actually rather boring, she served the Ardrishaig route from her completion in 1864 until her scrapping 1936, she was the company flagship until 1879 when her replacement RMS Columba was completed. She was the most luxurious Clyde ferry of her time.

The real story is with her older sisters Iona I and Iona II.

Iona I operated between Glasgow and Ardrishaig until 1862, when she was bought by Confederate agents to smuggle supplies through the Union blockade, but she collided with another ship in the Clyde and sank near Gourock.

Iona II was built in 1863 to replace her, having new luxurious rooms above deck. After just a year of her intended service, she was bought by the Confederate agent Charles Hopkins Boster and drafted into service as a blockade runner. She left Scotland on January 19th, destined for Queenstown, Ireland with unknown cargo. When she arrived, she either took on fuel or more cargo, and then her crew committed an unsuccessful mutiny, delaying her Atlantic departure by some days. Upon leaving sight of the British Isles, she sailed into heavy seas and began taking on water. She managed to reach Lundy Island before her boiler fires were put out and she sank. Her crew was rescued and days later her cargo was salvaged by diving bell.

A very beautiful drawing of a nice small paddle ship. The history of the ship and her predecessors is interesting.
Good work, and hope to see more merchant ships here ;)

The last liner built in Belgium before was the Baudouinville, which was built for the mail, passengers and some cargo route between Belgium and the Congo. The ship was completed just before the war and managed to make only three round-trips between Belgium and the Congo. In 1940 when the ship left for her fourth voyage Belgium was over run by the Germans and the ship found refuge in the French port of Nantes, there she was captured by the Germans, converted into the station hospital ship Lindau, and as such was sunk by the Germans in 1944.
