Well, all the critiques seem to be in so thanks a lot for your input. I have made most of the changes suggested and present a redux of Galatea rather than a revision of the original. The link to her sister, Australia was especially useful and enabled me to re-work the 6-inch guns. I am holding back on the hull shading; not being possessed of a body plan, I would be in danger of giving an inaccurate representation of the hull form so here is her final rendering:

Very nice and amazing for a first ship, only one problem and that is we will be looking for more :P

Very well done indeed.
I'm not an expert on warships of that era, but your drawing seem to qualify.
As for shading, just use the original shading guideline this thread
