Among the naval vessels captured by the Germans during the invasion of the Netherlands were the still unfinished K class sloops of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The K class designed in the late 1930s to replace the old Brinio-class gunboats. Of seven planned ships, three - named "A" "B" "C" - were laid down in 1939.

The Kriegsmarine ordered the completion of the ships and renamed them "K 1", "K 2" and "K 3". "K 1" was launched on 23 November 1940. Both "K 2" and "K 3" were launched in 1941 on 28 June and 22 March. The ships were commissioned in 1941 and 1942.

"K 1" was sunk on 5 May 1945 after a rocket hit by British Mosquito bombers near Aarhus.

Displacement: 1420 t (full)
Length: 78,00 m
Beam: 10,2 m
Draft: 2,88 m
Armament: 4 x 120 mm L/45 No. 8; 4 x 37 mm L/83; 12 x 20 mm L/65 ; up to 200 Mines
Armour (mm): belt: 40 - 60; deck: 20 - 35; turrets: 60; CT: 20
Performance: 2770 shp, 14,5 kn ("K 1")

My drawing, which depicts "K 1" as of June 1942, was based on some sketchy reference drawings and poor quality photos I found in an older "Marine Arsenal"-booklet.
Because of this, please be aware that the drawing might be inacurrate and may contain a hodgepodge of different features found on K 1 / 2 / 3.
So, if anybody knows where I can find better references, please contact me.

Thanks!

Nice work Maomatic.

I will send you a PM with some scans that may or may not help. It will have all the stats at least. (from the book 'German Warships of World War 2', HT Lenton)

Colombamike, do you happen to have the full plans of the original dutch design? I might be interested in drawing it, at the very least I would like to study it, if you could share it?
