Amazing work, but I do wonder what on earth is going on with the shading on the hull.

Thank you so much.

In the Naval Museum of Madrid there are many very detailed shipyard models, especially one of the Santa Ana. There are also excellent drawings (of the Bahama, the Principe de Asturias and some more) and paintings of the period.

Spain. Frigate Diana (1795)

The Diana frigate was the third in a series of 34-gun "Mahonnaise" frigates built in Mahon's arsenal at the end of the 18th century. Her real name was "Santa Ana" but it was common in the Spanish Navy to give ships another name, and the nickname "Diana" is why she was commonly known. It was launched in 1795 and fought in the Napoleonic and American emancipation wars.

Frigates of this type were very sailing and fast but weakly armed and could not face the French or English heavy frigates. They were very useful for hunting corsairs and pirates. The Diana experienced several changes along her career; she carried several riggings, and a semi bridge was added to increase her strength to 40 guns. It was scrapped in 1834.
