The two ships that later became the battlecruisers of the Scharnhorst-class were in 1934 planned as ship D and E of the Deutschland-class. The improvements were slightly, as the single 15cm were changed to twins. Machine rooms were moved some meters and more 10cm-aa were to be installed.

Still a WIP. The only source I had is this drawing and I tried to come as close to it as possible:

Interesting this drawing shows no catapult or hanger. I'm sure it's just not drawn. On the follow-up it will be added.

While looking now at the drawings I got it: these are no torpedo tubes, this is the catapult! Then there are no torpedo tubes left? Hmmm, could be, but I don't think so, will do on an evolved version. And the aft 15cm-turrets have to move some meters backwards.

Has anyone seen a better Heinkel He-60 floatplane?

Very interesting forum, sounds quite serious, thanks for the link! Infos will flow into reworked drawing.

@lazer_one: near Cologne means Bergheim.

Bow revised, hull lengthened, torps added, some errs cleaned. Hope, this is final.
Btw, the ship was not only planned like this, the keel was really layed 1934 and the ship should really have looked like this. It was broken up some weeks later only to become the later well known battlecruiser.

Ashley,

For a better realistic drawing, delete the "allied" 20mm oerlikon and replace it with german 20mm gun
;)
