That's actually one of the most intelligent small manned gun placements I've ever seen on a ship period. Quite impressed with that alone.

It's not without it's problems. That arrangement would appear to be literally the opposite of that recommended for good airflow over the flight deck. There may be some effort required to resolve it.

wonder if the gun positions either side of the hanger will be for a manned 25-30mm gun or phalanx?

.... aaaand he's back.

Thanks for the screenies. Yes small VLS is for CAMM. Sponsons are for 25 or 30mm with remote control. Badly modelled Phalanx can be seen fore and aft.

It does look like a VLS by the funnel doesn't it? Maybe it's a strike-length VLS for cruise missiles.

Pause and embiggen on the BBC video shows it to be a CAMM silo. Strike VLS is forward. Split AAW silos have been on generic-future-ship since at least FSC.

Ah, well, that would make sense because you'd want your heavier strike-length VLS lower for better stability, but the CAMM VLS is probably light enough that it could be placed a little higher on the ship without too much effect on stability.
