here I'll collect a series of SB drawings of proposed Italian projects for submarine gunships and cruisers.

Here is the first project for a 3.800 ton "Colonial submarine cruise" designed by Galeazzi in 1929, with an operating range of 4500 miles at 20 knots, 4 x 152/50 plus 2 x 76/50 AA.

Hmm I'm thinking they are counted as Cruisers or Submarine in treaties.......

They were submarines supposed to operate as long-range cruiser.
Basically during the ww1 was "discovered" the submarine but was not clear how exactly use it.
The real potential was exploited during the ww2 with the wolfpack tactic of U-booten or the lone hunting of Italian ones.

Indeed, submarines of the era was in the same spot that torpedoboats where in at the turn of the century.
Mature enough to be used as weapons, but tactics and doctrine were largely speculative.
