Hi,

I noticed that I still had the old drawing of the Flottenkreuzer FK 1a lying around, which was in need of a major update.
The drawing was one of the first ones I did in SB-scale and I was never really happy with it.

Revisiting it, I found out, that the dimensions were somewhat off and thus I had to do a complete redraw.

This time I've also tried my best to match the style to Garlicdesigns wonderful collection of German WW1 cruisers.
I know I'm a mere imitator here, but they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", don't they? ;)

Please feel free to point out any mistakes that may be present on this drawing, since I'm not that knowledgable about Kaiserliche Marine ships...

Thanks for looking!

That version certainly looks nice, much more up to the current standard than the older one you posted.
I can't comment on the ship itself, but I don't find any major fault in the drawing itself at first glance. The shading of the hull looks good, maybe the bridge could use darker shades under the overhangs? I could ask about the overhangs (blast deflectors?) over the aft and fore turrets, seeing how they don't meet the superstructure the same way, but I guess reference pictures could clear that up.
Nice work all the same, and don't even start fretting about about imitation when SB is all about a common style :)

This is indeed an excellent update and looks much better, shows how far your skills have developed.

Hi Maomatic

I feel duly flattered, very nice! The only thing I'm not to sure about is the windows in the forward observation post - I know there is only a single reference drawing of this type in Groener's, and many things can be interpreted either way, but I'd have represented them as mere vision slits. But that's a gut feeling, not more.

Greetings
GD

Hi,

thanks for the comments!

@citizen lambda:
Thanks, I've added some darker shades to the bridge structure overhangs. I don't really know about the blast shields, the reference drawing I used seems to match the way I did them, but I see your point.
Maybe I'll change them.

@Garlicdesign:
Gröners drawing does seem to show windows, but I agree that there should rather be vision slits on the observation post. I have changed the drawing accordingly.

Thanks!

VERY nice, maomatic. Detailing is excellent, you're not the only one to imitate Garlicdesigns style as I for one am guilty also but as citizen lambda said Shipbucket is about a common style.

All the best

Tempest.

You can see this is where the Reichsmarine took their cues from when they designed the K-class CLs.
