please consider the time era this ship sailed in. it was in WO2, where you had only bad aimed dumb bombs, non-guided torpedo's and grenades. and I suppose this ship is armored very well, which makes it a lot less vulnerable.

True, and torps weren't very good. But still, it's hard not to hit something like that, even with period bombs. But then again, do you need a guided torp to hit something a third of a kilometer long?

This ship was designed to withstand tallboy boms. Like 3 torpedo hits on exact same spot. Shells from 20 inch. And also its own ammo explotion.
This ship would be indestructable...
Exept if you trow a bom in the funnel so it cant move. Then attack its rudders. Sail with 4 iowa battleships +more to it. And fire the crap out of it.

Ah no, it most certainly wasn't armoured to withstand Tallboys or Grand Slams. Those things could punch through several meters of reinforced concrete, so you'd need far more deck armour than you'd ever be able to fit on any ship without sacrificing either belt or torpedo defences, or maybe even both.

Maybe this is the reason why those floating fortresses are exstinct these days.

But Mitch, are you going on with it?

It was a combination of a number of things, but the fact that a (comparatively) cheap aircraft could gut a BB and no practical amount of armour could stop it, certainly was a big one.
Advances in torpedoes and submarines certainly didn't help either, but the last nail in the coffin was the nuke.

That's too bad, keep your priorities in mind! And sorry, shipbucket should not be in that list.
