Okay, so I’m now going to try to draw a ship, in its variant designs, that I’ve wanted to tackle, but was intimidated by the lack of reference drawings and such, for some time now, namely the French Alsace-Class Battleship.

Below is a link to a drawing of three of the various configurations proposed. Although the drawing depicts a quad turret design, triple gun turrets were also proposed. The French Admiralty had a predisposion for quads as seen in the Richelieu and Dunkirk classes.

The Richelieu is show to give scale. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ce_top.svg

I'm now working on the first using the above drawing for placement and Redhorse's Richelieu for detail.

I should have something to show in a day or so, very much a WIP of course.

If anyone has any reference drawings please sent them my way.

Thanks,

David

Keeping with the above format,

Here is Rdhorse's original Richelieu:

Here is the Alsace (1st iteration) (After some input by GarlicDesign all the blame is mine) as she might ;) have looked:

If she is anywhere near what the French intended her to look like I'm happy :D

Here is the Alsace (2cd iteration) as she might ;) have looked:

This iteration is back on the drawing board . . . It will be back in a few days.

I'm sure Mike will be able to pull something out a hat for them. After all, he's made out of pictures.

I'm hoping as much. He's saved me before, and I'm sure again and again.

The kitbashing that the "alternative history" guy did from redhorse's drawing is quite horrible and "up to our faces" ignoring of SB's crediting thing, so lets not spread it around on the public pages. I deleted it awat from Ace's post. If you insist or feel must for sharing it, you can do it via PM or other means, but I'd rather hope you wouldn't. We cant figth against every breach of our drawings in the net, but atleast we can avoid linking them to our own forum.

Looks very good David.

Only question I would have is that there seems to be only 2 AA directors for the heavy AA. Might there be room for a couple more beside the funnel? Especially for 1944.

And you might want to remove Richelieu's name from the stern. ;) Other than that, she looks great!
