Excellent work Hood.

A design without the 'zero' bow. 20 odd years before Vanguard.
I'm going to have another look at the bows, in retrospect it looks too flared to me and might be the result of a wonky scan. It just doesn't seem to fit with the others in the series.

@Krakatoa
I've had a look at the drawings in Warship 2, and while there is some sheer forward, it's not large and the drawings are reproduced too small to be sure about any differences in the whole series.
In favour of 'zero' bow - H3b had forward turret on a high barbette, so could fire forward even at slight depression.
Against: apart from beam varying from 104 to 106 ft, the H3 series and G3 all seem to have essentially the same 850ft hull.
These are battlecruisers, so some flare on a hull for 32knots is to be expected.
"a lot of ship for six? guns." They were 6x18in, broadside some 20,000lb, about the same as G3, with displacements about 2000tons less.

@JSB How much smaller? Richelieu was about 38500tons

I agree, H3a is the bets, both for looks and probably for real life use as well. Loosing the restricted X turret is not such a big deal in most combat situations for a BC so I would prefer this over the G3 :). Can't wait to see the H3b and c. BTW I know it might be against the shipbucket rules but is tehre a chance for a reduced size comparison picture where all the designs are put on one slide?

BTW Hood, Sir if you are done with this series there are some Lion class preliminary designs I've got from our dearest Smurf that are begging to be drawn :)

I've fixed up the bows on the H3a. I'm much happier with the result now. As I thought a wonky scan was to blame.

That looks good Hood. Much more in line with the rest of the series.

The final two of the L-H Series of 1918-20 which are now posted on p.1.
I don't intend to redo Darth's G3s. Originally this series was to end here, but with Smurf's support this thread will go on to catalogue almost every never-built capital ship up to and perhaps including the early Lion designs. Stay tuned for more folks...
