I rather like this one! Are there any known numbers in regards to the armour ?
17 500 tons (Armor mainly intended to defeat italian 8"in cruisers-guns).
Belt 155-180mm, Deck 75mm, CT 100-130mm, Turrets 80 to 155mm
speed 34 to 35 knots...

37 000 tons : A1 & A2, 1927-1928 (upgraded armor from the 17 500 tons design)
Belt 220-280mm, Torpedo-bulkhead 50mm, Deck 75mm + 15mm, CT 120-155mm, Turrets 120 to 155mm
Speed around 31-33 knots

37 000 tons : B, 1928, 16"in gun design (Armor mainly intended to defeat italian 12" battleships-guns).
Belt 220-280mm, Torpedo-bulkhead 50mm, Deck 75mm + 15mm, CT 200-230mm, Turrets 180-250mm
Speed 27 knots

23 690 tons : 1930-1931 design (newer & improved armor disposition):
Belt 180-220mm, Torpedo-bulkhead 50mm, Deck 80mm + 15mm, CT 220mm, Turrets 155 to 300mm
Speed 29+ knots
I stand corrected. Colombamike has more and better sources than I.

Thanks very much to both of you, for drawings and data. My patience rewarded at last, and you didn't stretch it far!
(It's many years since I hoped to find a drawing of the 17500 ton design, when Layman and McLaughlin's speculative design in their "Hybrid Warships" was applied to it on the old Warship projects websites. I find it quite surprising that there are still designs nearly 100 years old for which drawings are even now only just being published. There are still some missing for which surely drawings were made: eg X4 the 'Fusion Design' of 1905, 22,500tons with Dreadnought armour and slightly stronger armament but Invincible speed. Stats are available, and I know the gun layout, but not the funnels and general appearance.)

Interesting...however, anyone else look at that design and automatically think to themselves, "Something just seems...missing."?

The drawing itself is a masterpiece, though! :)

Very well rendered drawing David,

I can see the genesis and process going from the early 20's designs through to the Dunkerque.

As I found with the J's, the process and stories behind the designs make fascinating reading and viewing.

If I may make a suggestion / request, could you put all of the drawings into date order in Post 1, so that we may scroll through and see the changes in philosophy first hand.

Thanks.

Looks a lot like a mix between a cut-down Fuso class and some of the Hiraga designs :P The drawings you put up are always quite appealing David! Wonderful work :)

Another very interesting drawing. It looks quite a stubby and cramped ship, probably squeezing everything possible out of the low tonnage.

You're quite right. She is a bit shorter and rather more beamy in proportion to the other ships; however, I really prefer the tower mast over the tripod masts of the previous designs. ;)

Wait, wait, mon cher frere Chevalier La Touche! Pour Quoi Moi? What makes me honor the signature line? I cannot spot anything that I've contributed to a larger extent on that last drawing! (Not that I'm not honored; just don't want to unfairly share your spotlight...)
