It was £348 million for three Batch 2 Rivers not £348 million each.
Indeed, apologies for my confusion there.

Cardiff yeap though the English will be moaning soon if one isn't named after a "British" city soon (and by that they mean English) I would suggest it could be London. But Cardiff to cover wales. Then a northern, Midland and Southern English city.

So Newcastle, Birmingham and London with Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.

well the naming of the first three is a shameless and pathetic attempt to tie the nationalistic sentiments of the provinces to the Royal Navy. They aren't going to give any special attention to the North, because why would they?

For all of their bitching the Scottish don't actually know what it's like when Westminster really doesn't give a fuck about you.

however the political motivations of the politicians aside, they're perfectly serviceable names with long histories, as to what the other 3 will be called

Coventry, London, and if their whining manages to have any effect, Portsmouth

I would suggest "Belfast" has been long and hard thought about as the civil service won't want to upset Sein Fen or the Nationalist community in Northern Ireland.

London I threw in looking at how quickly the name was brought back County Class to Type 22/II yes you could also use Sheffield and Coventry but they were named for the Falklands losses. Personally for the "Southern" English city I'd like to see Plymouth.

Since it seems likely only three will be ordered in the short-term and the last of the class won't complete until 2027 I suspect there is plenty of time for the MOD to look at names.

Considering that all BMT can realistically bring to the table is the Venator design it looks like it's gonna be Venator Vs Cutlass/leander.
