Very nice work Hood and very good info smurf! I hope you too are going to give a try to the larger cruiser designs (12X9.4" maybe?)

Thanks,

Akos

What 12x9.4" designs would those be Csatahajos?

9.4" is not a British weapon.

Sorry my bad, it is 9.2" ofc!!!! These are mentioned in the Large Cruisers chapter in Friedman's cruiser book (don't have the book at hand atm but can look it up the exact details and page number later).

E2 and E3, described in DK Brown's books as "beautiful miniature Queen Elizabeths" though IIRC he did cross them up in one book.
Again, the only illustrations are the simple initial ones in d'Eyncourt's designers notebook. They would look good Shipbucket style.

Well, I meant the modern ones, designed during IIRC 1939 and 1940; but the E2 and E3 sound very interesting as well so both are welcome!

See "British 1940 heavy cruiser project" in this section July 2015

Ooops! I've now actually had a look at that, which is about the 8in 1940 cruisers, though my memory still tells me that I posted (or sent to someone to use) the very simple Workbook drawing of the ship with three quad 9.2 turrets.
EDIT. Can't find anything on here using Search. Must have been the old Warship Projects Board.
There is really only a very crude Workbook sketch and brief written descriptions to go on for the 3x4 9.2in cruiser designs, which in profile would have looked rather like the triple 8in ships, though bigger.

Garlicdesign also did a nice big UK cruiser in the last 6 months. I would suggest to go back through the 'Never were' drawings and pick out the ones you are looking for. Hood also did a very credible 8" cruiser in the Personal design section that is well worth a look at.

Thanks Krakatoa. I know Garlic's drawing, it is veryn ice but actualy it shows the somewhat smaller and probably later designed 8" cruiser. I'll look up Hood's 8" one thugh.

What I was referring to are more similar in size and armor to the USN's Alaskas.

GarlicDesign's ship is in the thread I referred to above. British 1940 heavy cruiser project

The bigger one was often referred to as 'Churchill's cruiser' intended to outmatch German 'Hipper' class.
RN 1939 9.2in cruiser: 20,750tons, 700'wl x 84'; 154,00shp, 33kn; 3x4 9.2", 6x2 4.5in DP, 2x8 2pdrAA; 7" belt, 4" deck
Design ideas modified in 1940, with 3x3 9.2in and 4x3 8in variants, but initial ideas only, and none bigger.
