Here is a design I drew based on early developments of the Pensacola class. I had multiple concepts and chose the most unique one and here is what I got! The ship doesn't have an actual name yet, so I called it the Miami class heavy cruiser!

***AU Information***

Ships in class:
  • Miami
  • Orlando
  • Jacksonville
********
Below is the original concept.

A good representation of the concept drawing.

I would note the little guns forward and aft are .50 calibre mg's not 20mm cannons.

One of the boats would have a cabin.

What is the bit of yellow hanging below the aft screw and shaft?

We had the 'knuckle' debate - that age of cruiser would have the knuckle on it.

The concept drawing shows a pair of searchlights mounted on the funnel that are not on your drawing.

A suggestion. Personally, I would not give fictional names to actual never built designs (unless they recieved one already, like the Montana class ships for example), just call it "USA, Design C N°10" like the file says, you can add a "(preliminary Pensacola design)" after the first text if you want some more.

Thanks!

Krakatoa, I didn't know those things by the funnels were actually searchlights. I think the funnel was also kind of weird to draw because most other US ships of this period had two or more thin ones, not one giant one.

I gave the ship a name because I intend to use it my AU. I think I'll state that too and maybe make a second drawing for the AU version. Possibly on the same thread.

By the way the yellow bit by the propellers was a mistake, and it will be removed.

I'll change the AA guns and this 'knuckle' thing you speak of aswell.

Where can I find these guns?

Passable, but still needs some work. Firstly, have you used the USN boat-sheet? I don't recognize the boats used. Please refer to contemporary US cruisers for ideas of the boat complement. No need to make up fictional boats either, since WhyMe drew an awesome parts sheet for those!

Also, the stern is completely wrong. The outer shafts are weirdly represented. Practice in the USN were fairly long shaft lines. In your rendition, the outer propellers would effectively knock the outer plating out and themselves get distorted and bent! They are simply told unworkable!

As others have pointed out, there should be flutes (knuckles) prominently visible. I suggest you study my Northampton class, which has the most accurate representation. Also there is a skeg between the shafts, lacking on your drawing. The 12' FC director mounted high atop the foretop would have been, instead, mounted atop the pilot house, probably and likely on a platform protrusion. And, as I've mentioned before in another of your threads: add scuttles! Your ship has way, way too few of those!
