-I've noticed a lack of Confederate ships for some time now and I aim to fix that somewhat. The CSS Wilmington was a shallow-draft Confederate gunboat laid down at the Carolina Shipbuilding Company yard in her hometown (also my hometown) of Wilmington, North Carolina. She was 224 feet (68 meters) long, 42 feet and 6 inches (13 meters) wide, and 9 feet 6 inches (3 meters) deep. She carried two guns in each of her iron-plated gunhouses that were mounted on rotating carriages so they could fire out of each of the 4 gunports. She was propelled to a speed of 5-6 knots (estimated) by her two engines and 4 coal-fired boilers driving 2 shafts. She was laid down in 1864, but the war was ending before she could be commissioned and she was destroyed on the stocks on January 15, 1865 to keep her from capture by advancing Federal Forces.
