The escalation in the size of Neptune and the resultant cancellation lead to a new design being developed. The inspiration was the US cruiser Worcester CL-144 which towards the end of the second world war was seen as an attractive proposition by many RN officers.

Four new sketch designs were produced. In sketch A the main armamment comprised ten 6" in twin HA/LA turrets, the secondary armament being sixteen 3"/70cal in twin mountings. Both the 6" and 3" mountings were new designs where development was at an early stage.

Beautiful work!

I've long wanted to draw this but never got around to it.
I'd love to see more of the Minotaur series.

The early LRS-1 directors as shown on the John Roberts plan are on the RN Radar sheet, look for the Long-Range System (LRS-1) on the gunnery director column, its the one with the two dishes (shown face on). It is the same mount but the dishes hide the sloped sides of the central structure that Roberts shows.

She is indeed a very handsome looking vessel and, if built, would have had a long and successful career in commonwealth navies I'm thinking. :D

Really nice drawing and great detailing. I’m not sure detailing the individual panels does anything for the drawing however, if you look at other drawings the majority they don’t have them I think it’s because it goes against the rules. Some shading and highlighting at the bow and stern would help in giving them depth.

yeah, you would not be able to see those paneling from long distance. and the hull would be welded, so there would be no visual panneling

Fabulous. Great to see a new member achieving such a high standard of drawing (arguably better than a lot of us here)!

My only minor suggestion would be to make the rigging color the same as the railing (right now it's kind of hard to see).

Very nice work, although IMHO the number of portholes is somewhat anachronistic. It's worth noting that neither the Tigers nor Vanguard had portholes below the second deck.

Presuming all of the 1950s kludge functioned as designed, the combination of QF 6", 3"/70, and 16 (!) torpedoes would be damned frighting to face in a short-range knife-fight.

That is a very beautiful work. This was a long awaited never built design.
This work should be commended, being done by a new artist, so well done.
