Hi all!

A ship that certainly never will be: Damen's first impression of how their MKS-180 might look.

The drawing is based on a single artist's rendering, I've found no other image of it in the www, so the only thing I can be sure of is the size (LCWL 155 meters). All else is guesswork, so I'm not really sure it's not more of a personal design.

Almost a pity MKS 180 will not be built to that design. Nor to any other one. Politics will make sure that the F123 will be retired without replacement.

Greetings
GD

Excellent work, beautiful! I had been deliberating how to draw that rendering myself as inspiration for the current challenge. Guess I'll have to rethink things now!

The MKS 180 is based upon an earlier Damen design, the Omega, for an Indonesian frigate. Check out the side view of that here:

And you can see that there's a few minor differences, especially in the shape of the aft stack/mast (Mack). Also, it looks like the ship runs on four diesel engines, no turbine?

Apart from that, excellent drawing. Hope that they get made, and there's no shenenigans with the Germans.

I have high doubts about that location for the torpedo tubes though, and I suspec tthe hatches just behind the bridge wings and near the aft mast are evactuation hatches (as used on the Holland class OPV) which means they should both be the same size and shape and that they replace the liferafts which you have added aft. I also think the layout of the space between the 2 Macks/masts is laid out differently, there seems to be an UNREP mast and a boat in that space, not (just) the missile launchers and containers.
I also think the forward RAM platform does not have cut corners but is flat forwards, and I suspect the metal around the bridge windows is not painted black ubt just shaded very dark in the reference image.

This is very nicely drawn, but as usual the devil is in the details, a tiny bit of additional work and this is perfect!

Have to echo Ace here, the logical place for the torpedo launchers is close to, and on the same level, as the hangar. Otherwise you have to lug your torpedoes around the ship, and that just won't do.

Hi and thanks for the feedback!

Drawing is upgraded. Issues should be settled. Though I'm quite sure the source pic indeed shows black paint around the bridge windows.

looks grey, but dark due to shading from the big overhang

Very nice drawing! However, I thought that this was the final MKS-180 design:
