What about a skirmish with Russian vessels defending sovereignty of it? (after the claim they made to it)

Takes to go a few years back in time and a little about writing about the battle at the north pole.

Headlines in the media:
USSR has declared the North Pole to themselves.
Government Members in negotiations with the USSR.
We will not let the USSR have the permissions to the resources found there.
The negotiations collapse.
The army mobilized on the border to push USSR back to the negotiating table.

Report headlines to government members:
Kl 00.12
Coast Guard Ship "Commander John" under attack by unknown ships USSR.
Kl 00.12
Coast Guard Ship "Commander John" attack helicopter equipped with torpedo, while it is trying to get away.

Headlines in the media:
Kl 00.15
Hevy cruiser "Arctic Ocean" left Svalbard, with its two destoyere and two Frigate.

Report headlines to government members:
Kl 00.20
Coast Guard Ship "Commander John" has begun to sink
Kl 00.20
Hevy cruiser "Arctic Ocean" has left Svalbard. to secure and protect the Coast Guard vessel "Commander John"
Kl 00.20
Government convenes emergency meeting.

Last night Time 00.12. Come Coast Guard Ship "Commander John" under attack by the USSR. destroyer when it was on a routine patrol. "Commander John" fell at. 00.25 by a crew of 45, only five survived. Hevy cruiser "Arctic Ocean", two destroyers and two Fregate. is now in the area.

Government together with the Admiralty has decided to send up 2 fleet and 4 Fleet + two Hevy cruiser to the area. In tomorrow will helicopter carrier "Admiral John Ulstrup" be in the area. main task is to cordon off North Pole for the USSR.

Both Hevy Cruiser retires after delivering great destruction in the USSR fleet. Returning fire with cannon aft.

Hevy Cruiser "North Pole" is attacked by five USSR destroyer.
Kl 01.55
Hevy Cruiser "Arctic Ocean" attack trying to run directly on the five destroyers that attacked Hevy Cruiser "North Pole".
Kl 02.45
USSR Fleet retreat, closely pursued by 445 and 372 Submarine squadron.
Kl 03.12
On the way back to Tromso for repairs, the cruiser Hevy "North Pole" and its six escort ships under attack.
Commander John Nilsen report that they have come under attack by the USSR 15 ships and is under heavy fire. Commander Nilsen open fire.
Kl 06.34
"Admiral John Ulstrup" has come to the area where Hevy cruiser "North Pole" is under attack.
At 06.36 "Admiral John Ulstrup" attack with everything they have, they go even into the war zone with the ship.
Kl 07.25
Fighting reported as finished and Hevy Cruiser "North Pole" need tow boat.
Kl 09.59
"Admiral John Ulstrup" return to the original course is the north pole.

In Media:
The last two days have 2 and 4 fleet has been in fierce battles with the USSR fleet. Hevy Cruiser "North Pole" has reports that extreme injuries. and the car towed directly to Bergen for examination as to what to do with her.

three days later in foreign media.
The Northern Kingdom sends in their famous 9 Fleet also known as "the Royal fleet" to the North Pole. 9 fleet was once known as Admiral Heuser attacked a fleet of two large force, just to try to stop them to the main force was coming to the area.

1 week later. USSR withdraws, the reason: "that it costs too much to operate a base on nortpole!"

Report to the Government Members:
Hevy Cruiser "North Pole" has been under heavy investigation and we have concluded that it is cheaper to build a new ship on the hull of the "North Pole" an that is to build a new ship.

And broadcasting your navy's movement to the press is a stupid thing to do.

I based the idea of the superstructure on Ticonderoga class. but due to the size of the ship 208 meters, I had a little more room to do it a little uglier, a warship usually have a beautiful hull, but the superstructure isnt always as beautiful as the hull. :D

if we look at the ship, as it must have been built in the late 70's, so ...
It's just a problem and that is that the guns on it make it to look like the ship has been built sometime in the 50-60 century.

Remember that some of the points are for the media other points are for the government's eyes.

I tried to act as the media has gotten to know some of the coarse around the action, nothing more. The government then clearly know more.
