The Shannon class destroyer was designed after US destroyers such as the Benson and was first launched in early 1940 after the lead ship had passed her sea trials. The Shannon class was considered a highly successful design and was the highest produced destroyer of World War Two. Unfortunately, nearly half of these destroyers never saw combat because of Japan's surprise attack on Antara, which destroyed most ships that were anchored in port. They were praised for their ruggedness, speed and artillery fire power. Following the surprise attack in 1940, the remaining destroyers underwent extensive repairs and refits. By 1941, most Antaran ships, especially the Shannon class destroyers, received a huge buff in AA power. Sadly most destroyers of this class were sunk by the end of the war, but proved to be a valuable member of the Antaran navy.

I think the shafts should extend further aft and have at least one support fairing leading up to the hull. Also, I don't think these ships would have radar in 1941... maybe 3-4 units receive it by 1942 (an SC air search on the mast) and then by 1943 I think you'd see the arrangement you have now (with SG and SC on the mast). By 1943/1944 the SC would likely be replaced with the more efficient SC-2 and SC-3.

The hull shading is pretty good though I would consider maybe angling it forward a little more.

The shading around the sonar dome kind of bothers me, I can tell it's the same style I used on the original Fletcher drawings and it doesn't represent the feature well. I wouldn't "cut out" so much of the keel when showing it. Again, take a look at the Fletchers on my deviant art page for an idea.

From reading the destroyer force disposition you've made it seems like the Antaran Navy fights harder than most (or is just incompentent... LOL). I see the usual Shipbucket tradition of putting too many preserved museum ships in your navies continues unabated (I have always been very, very anti-museum ships in AUs).

I would also be interested in seeing dates entered service and date of final disposition - "scrapped 1961" or "sunk as target RIMPAC 1980" or "sold to Greece 1971" or whatever would be more interesting than a simple "retired".

Anyway I think it's obvious that you have mostly mastered the style of drawing, now with a few improvements I think you can start making some pretty nice drawings.

Looking much better.

Can we maybe see some mid-war refits? Perhaps a version similar to the 1943 Fletchers, with 40mm Bofors abeam the pilot house and after stack, with a lot more 20mm Oerlikons everywhere... and maybe a destroyer minelayer version with mine tracks along the sides of the aft superstructure. Also maybe an anti-kamikaze refit like the 1945 USS Kidd?

Can you show me an example of this mine layer thing you speak of?

Here's the 1943 refit
