Just a quick question old chap, but will you at some point be drawing any more "modern" type vessels please?

Many thanks old man
They're not a high priority, but it is something I definitely plan to do in the near future. I first need to get that era figured out first. Its a black-hole so to speak.
I'm excited to see when you do touch more modern vessels, will definitely be an interesting sight to see from such a finely aged wine such as yourself
I too am very much looking forward to the day sir.

By the way, something I should have said in my first post, "GREAT work thus far my old fruit. Jolly WELL DONE :!: "

Vortice class destroyer leader

[ img ]

The Vortice class destroyers leaders were built for the Libeccian Home Fleet, tasked with defending the Atia Strait during a possible war with Wesmere, a duty originally laid out by Libeccia's master state of Siegmaria. The term 'destroyer leader' was used only to allow this class to have a tonnage of 1800 tonnes, as all modern Libeccian destroyers carried large enough quarters for command crews. The navy used the additional tonnage to increase her speed and torpedo armament. Vortice had an impressive speed of almost 40 knots and carried two highly unusual sextuple torpedo launchers. Vortice's gun armament was reduced to 2x2 127mm guns, down from 3x2 from the preceding class - which was still very much comparable with other destroyers of the time.

Nitari class destroyer

[ img ]

The Nitaris were designed to fit a limited budget and thus her displacement was kept deliberately low. To keep the Nitaris within Osora's destroyer doctrine, no comprises were made to her torpedo armament, in fact it was essentially doubled with the addition of quick reloads for every launcher, this did however result in her being very crowded amidships which hampered future refits. Her gun armament was dropped by one mount from the Kurodais, down to two twin turrets fore and aft.

An attempt was made to keep the speed the same as the last class, but Nitari ended up being heavier than expected which dropped her down half a knot of her intended speed of 36 knots. Following their completion it was decided that the triple torpedo launcher would need to be replaced by a quadruple and the total launcher count reduced to two, all in order to save on weight and space. There were ideas aired by some in the Admiralty to refit the Nitaris with quadruples, however the quick reloads would also need to be relocated, ultimately the idea was dropped and reserved for succeeding classes.

The Nitaris have the bittersweet privilege of being the host class of the only Osoran destroyer to survive the World War. Kanehira became famous in her own rite throughout the war, surviving it only added to her fame. Kanehira's wartime fame did not come about from combat, but as a result of enormous luck, skillful command by her captain, being a helpful support ship and being regarded as unsinkable.

Kanehira survived several air attacks, participated in several major campaigns and engagements - being the sole survivor of a few, rescued the crews of friendly and enemy vessels alike, and even sank two Antaran vessels. The only thing that stopped Kanehira sortieing in 1348 near the end of the war was a fuel shortage. Kanehira was seized and ceded to the Antaran Navy as a war prize in 1949. Many Osorans petitioned the Antaran government to return her to Osora to be preserved as a museum but were rejected as the Osorans simply could not afford to maintain even destroyer due to the state of the country after the war. At that point even Osoran-Antaran citizens requested to have her preserved in Antara, going so far as to have charity drives in an attempt to fund it, though not enough money could be raised. Kanehira was towed into Chewago, Carmilla province. Kanehira was 10% broken down when she was abandoned at Danvani Shipbreaking Yard where she still remains.

Vihero class light frigate

[ img ]

ARS CHIYESA in her stern depth charge rack/ rescue boat configuration, modernized with surface and airsearch radar, two quad 38mm autocannons and various 25mm AA mounts. Her crane is lowered down and partially disassembled to allow the aft gun mount better firing arcs. CHIYESA patrolled Aberdeen Bay acting as a rescue ship for torpedoed merchants, providing direct fire support on the home front and ASW action against hostile submarines. CHIYESA would be torpedoed on 12 October 1346 while attempting a rescue of the burning oiler ARS QUESA off Candale Bay.

The Vihero class light frigates were designed to replace the aging protected cruisers which were usually reserved to be stationed at colonies. After the Great War Antara had for the first time in its history obtained overseas territories that were not already military bases, with this came the requirement to assign warships to these territories. Initial requirements were put forth towards the Navy, which boiled down to a small vessel with enough range and accommodation to allow it to operate in colonial harbors and outside of home waters. The navy's budget at the time was already extremely strained due to its rapid spending on new warships, so the desire to extend the size and role of this vessel existed - all to reduce the number of specialized vessels the navy required and save on money and dockyard space.

The roles were extended to search and rescue which resulted in the addition of an aircraft catapult and floatplane. The class would also not only operate in colonial waters, but in regular harbors in homewaters close to Antara's borders. The class would need to be able to offer offshore fire support in the event the coast or harbor comes under attack. The vessel would also receive depth charges and a sonar to give it ASW capabilities to ward off coastal submarines. Another factor was considered during the planning stage, Antara's older light cruisers were being phased out - many of which were also active minelayers, this resulted in the requirements being further increased to giving it mine rails which would take the place of depth charges on some vessels. There was some debate as to the main battery caliber with some suggesting she be armed with 152mm guns, but the majority agreed that rapid fire and dual purpose mounts were superior and that she was not expected to face heavily armored targets, and as such 127mm/45s were chosen as her armament, 3 in total. The Admiralty finished their proposal for a light frigate under the class name of FR-3 (frigate 6th class). The light frigate classification denoted an ocean going escort vessel that was not capable of being part of the battle fleet, as opposed to a contemporary destroyer which sat at the same tonnage - the 'light' meant it possessed 127mm guns and not 152mm which previous frigates carried.

The Admiralty was ultimately satisfied with the vessel and put forth the proposal to the Minister of the Navy. The navy wanted to order a massive number of ships, totaling 28 ships. The Navy Minister had no issues as the order fit the navy's budget, the main issues were raised outside of the navy which was all too common for Antara in the post-Great War environment. The greatest objection came from Emperor William V, who stated the request was outrageous and hated the idea of having so many warships based in civilian ports and colonies. The Emperor's anti-militarism resulted in the class being cut down two only 9 of the original 28 ships. The Vihero class frigates were laid down in March 1332 and all vessels were commissioned by 1333. The Viheros were named after tribes and kingdoms from Antara's history.
