Graizenstadt-class

[ img ]

The Graizenstadt-class was a class of three heavy raiders built for the Aufzenian Navy from 1920-1923. A development of previous classes, the Graizenstadt's aim was to act as both a raider capable of defeating any enemy ship on escort duties, or act as a counter-raider able to defeat any raider of its size or smaller. The Graizenstadts aimed to improve upon their predecessor's seakeeping and range, with the armament and armor being comparable to preceding Halden-class.

Upon the start of the war, none of the class were complete. Though 5 had been planned, the final two had not been laid down, and were canceled in favor of the Dünen-class under development. Graizenstadt, 95% complete when the war began, was pressed into service within two months and began her raiding career with a highly successful sortie where she successfully attacked a mana-laden convoy traveling from Teryek, sinking many of the transports, and sank her two escorts. Graizenstadt saw significant success throughout much of the war, being one of the most successful heavy raiders operated by the Aufzenians, until she was sunk by Jamesonian land-based aircraft while returning to port in January of 1930. Udmark (also known as Łudzow) was the second ship of the class, and was commissioned in March of 1922. She served for barely six months before being sunk by mage strike on her second patrol in August of 1922. Lekzen (or Luike) was the third ship of the class and the only survivor of the Great War, conducting 45 combat patrols before being deactivated in 1934 during the demobilization of the Navy starting in 1931. Though several proposals were put fort to convert her into a missile cruiser post-war, as the only survivor of her class this was deemed too expensive for a single ship, and she was scrapped in 1937.
