At some point I come over an article here in Norway, where someone from the Navy/military said that the future fleet should mainly consist of 2 standard design, one small and one large type of vessel. above 50 meter and a 133 meter (similar size as current frigates). The above 50 meter design is to be of a standardized design (one hull, many variant based on that hull).

So whit that in mind. and that Norway is working closer and closer with Germany, when it comes to new missiles, submarines and other tech. I drew up a frigate of similar size as current frigate, the only difference are layout and placement of systems and that it the ship max height is less then current frigates. Other then that, the stats are similar.

Difference between this drawing and current frigates in Norway:
- Twin radar mast/Island
- weapon packs spread out. VLS at center
- More CIWS/layered defence capability
- GUNS
- a little larger Helicopter deck.
- Closed RHIB bay / mission bay / UAV/USV- bay
- A small simple lightweight VLS for some sort of rocket/missile for close range defence
- Radar plates, inspired by German Atlas variant.

The design do have it's problems, but the size of the hull gives some limits that I have to work with. But I think it looks like a more stable design, then the current frigates that looks bow heavy!

A continuation of my previous post.

With the following knowledge on the Norwegian Navy and what are some of the talks we are starting to hear:
- a class of offshore going warship in similar size as current frigates.
- A common design corvette, over 50 meter (command vessel for USV?)
- Starting to use USV (going from testing stage to, use)

-------------

Short version of text bellow:
- main gun forward
- superstructure more forward
- main weapon deck on center
- main powerplant more aft, Hybrid powerplant. almost fully electric propulsion
- large helicopter deck for more space for UAV operation
- aft deck with space fro 18+- meter USV or several small one. With a special solution to pull in a vessel.

So I based the frigate on the pervious design, with the knowledge based above. I took inspiration Austal concept of Large Unmanned Surface Vessel (LUSV). The result was:
- 56-76mm gun on the foredeck.
- Superstructure and bridge moved more forward.
- main weapon deck moved to in front of the funnel
- funnel and main propulsion are moved more aft, than on current Norwegian frigates.
- I have main powerplant aft, by saying the ship is using an Hybrid powerplant, where the only engine's connected to the shaft, is electric motors and two of the main diesel engines.
- The main turbine and most of the diesel engines are operating as Generator only. And thus can always operate at the most optimum rpm at any time and load.
- Only 2 main diesel-generator are connected to the shaft, trough gearbox.
- There are 2 or 3 electric motors. If 3 electric motors, then there are 2 smaller one on each shaft and one large one connected directly to the gearbox. If only electric motors.... I prefer the 3 electric motor installation.
- With not having the direct pressure from a jet-turbine on the tear and wear on the gearbox are somewhat reduced.
- I would suggest the main gearbox can split it self up in 3 but also have a cross feed, incase of problems with either electric motors or a section of gearbox. Thus can operate either on shaft or both shaft at reduced speed, due to a cross feed system that operate separate from main portion of the gearbox.
- Enlarged helicopter deck to give space for 40mm/CIWS/RAM and also UAV operation
- Aft deck is dedicated for USV, with space for 1 18+- vessel (drone), or several smaller one. the docking procedure will be by the vessel entering a sort of crane that will hold the vessel and pull it in, together with a winch. Will be a little slower than a purpose designed dock system. But will allow to use a common design, without having to rework the stearn design.

I'm liking that low-profile aesthetic.

I'll just call it Multipurpose hull

In short:
Limited towing capacity (Part of national emergency standby towing capacity)
deep hull design, increase capability in some are for the cost of top speed (20-25 knots)
enlarged fuel capacity (fuel tanks can deliver fuel but also be used for environment work)
Large cargo decks
Flexible weapon pack

The simple idea:

A weapon pack, In form of an modified stanflex variant.:
- Enlarged containers with space for max. a SDLS basic module or 40mm or remote controlled 25mm gun.
- Open container solution, for weapon packs like 2 x twin NSM launcher.

- Main gun 40mm or 57mm.
- Short range rocket launcher.
- Remote controlled Kongsberg 12.7HMG Sea Protector.
- Flare launcher

2 massive cargo decks, flexible decks with space for multiple things:
- Containers
- USV
- Bellow deck storage of UAV
- Towed sonar
- Torpedo
- Supply
- Transport

Machinery:
main diesel engines and several generators
Propulsion: Pods

Crew: Small crew complement as standard, with crew facilities on the sides of cargo decks and in bow section. C&C right bellow bridge with command officer in same area.

Length: a little over 80 meters
beam: 14 meters

Another interesting concept, nicely drawn too. Looks like a fairly useful multi-purpose ship.

I have updated the drawing with more modules and so minor adjustment on the drawing itself.
