Here will be my overall thread of musings and concepts for shipbucket instead of making a individual thread for each topic.

Starting off we have a what if scenario in which the United Kingdom decided to stay with Common Next Generation Frigate Horizon program.

The idea behind this ship was that the Royal Navy and the MOD, HM government, the British defense industry were for whatever reason in 1999 able to work out the operational and procurements issues that were starting to creep into the program. Accepting that the smaller Horizon frigate would be adequate to achieve the RN and UK's operational objectives, production began almost a year earlier then the real world Type 45 Daring class. The cost savings in scrapping the transformative SAMPSON's MFR and IEP propulsion and electrical generation allowed for some capability improvements in the final batch of 6 of the 'D' class which included increasing the number of the modules in the EMPAR's, configuring the gas turbines to run with algae bio diesel, and fitting A70 missile cells and slaving the 114mm to battle management system. In addition to being a simpler ship the production line was simplified so the BAE was able to deliver a hull every 8 months for outfitting. This resulted that by the time of the 2008 fiscal crisis and the 2009-2010 budget cuts; unit 7 of the 'D' class (also know as the improved 'D' class or 'E' class in some circles) was under going sea trials, units 8 and 9 were being outfitted or in final stages of construction, and construction had already began on the long lead items for units 10 and 11 of the 'D' class

-'D' class destroyers
* 114mm Naval gun
* Sea Viper Combat system
- 48 cell Aster-30 battery in A50 cells in the first 6 units of the 'D' class
- 48 cell A70 battery to be fitted with Aster-30 LRSAM, Storm shadow LACM , Harpoon or Exocet block 3 SSM in the second set 6 improved 'D' or 'E' class Destroyers.
* 2 DS30m 30mm naval autocannons
* 2 Phalanx CIWS block 1B
* Magazine for 19 324mm Stingray ASW torpedoes and two torpedo tubes one port and one starbord that is shared with avation detachment, based off the Horizon class frigates torpedo handeling system.
* Emplacements for several light and medium machine guns and auto cannons

* 152m and 7000 ton
* Crew complement of 180-190 with provisions for 30-40 passengers, either a flagstaff, embarked military force, or enhanced aviation detachment.
* Two Rolls Royce WR-21 and two Wärtsilä V12 VASA32 diesel generators for power generation and propulsion
* 29 Knots top speed with a total range of 8000 miles
* Flight deck and enclosed hangar for up to two medium-lift helicopters, usually a Merlin or Lynx Wildcat
* Can support UAS system like a S100 campcopter or scan eagle. If one medium lift Helico is forgone a unmanned platform with a ordnance delivery system can be included (MQ-8B.)

Because of continued UK involvement in the program the Marine National and Marina Militare were not forced to cancel their second sets of Horizon frigates. Brining the final tally of frigates to 11 UK and 8 Franco-Italian.

In reality, the Type 45 Daring class destroyer are the most advanced warships in the world, however the troubled development of the transformative electronics, sensor systems, and propulsion-power generation technologies is what led to the canceling of half the program and the collapes of the final 4 Franco-Italian frigates. Despite that the intellectual capital gained from the IEP and refinement of construction techniques and ship design will pay dividends in the UK's Type 26 frigate program (Future Surface Combatant.)

Please feel free to comment and suggest improvements to the design. Also i wasnt exactly sure what type of passive and active countermeasure systems should of been included, or what other Royal Navy electronics i might be missing.

Next up the French aviation cruiser FS Charles Martel (custom replacement for the FS Jean D' arc)
