Perhaps this Japanese warship could be classified as a frigate, not sure though. All drawings here are very nice.
Nah, the designation is correct as a corvette. Frigates were Longer, usually faster under steam and had a stronger battery than a corvette on that era.
"Technically [HMS] Inconstant was a corvette, because her main battery was carried on an uncovered gun
deck (she carried a few more guns on forecastle and poop above it). However, she was much larger and
more powerful than wooden steam corvettes; she was soon designated a frigate." - British Cruisers of the Victorian Era by Norman Friedman.
