Of course it must be pointed out that Normal Bel Geddes was not a naval engineer. It was a time filler for his staff, the Italian connection coming from theatrical designer Ernest de Weerth, on behalf of Mussolini. Another odd non-naval connection. Geddes hoped an American shipbuilder would take up the concept but sadly it was not to be. I suspect a proper firm of naval architects would have made several changes to the design to make it practical.
If this "designer" could have invented triple-curvature hull plating, he would have.

The Kalakala was designed using Geddes ideas,and was drawn, or intended to be drawn by C Hoefer (IIRC). |
