My first Drawing i Shipbucket style. Being a beginner i this great forum i started out with modifying a drawing of a Oliver H. Perry class.
I Stretched the original design, adding af Mk 41 VLS, moved the gun and added seperat Harpoon launchers.

Not sure about Radars and other Sensors, please teach me.

Is my drawing in true Shipbucket style?

Uploading to Photobucket okay?

Please comment, criticize and point out my faults

Whilst missiles and warships after 1945 are not my forte, I'll answer your questions

Is my drawing in true Shipbucket style?
Yes, most things look in order, might have a few stray pixels but it should be fine

Uploading to Photobucket okay?
No problem, just watch your uploading preferences

Welcome to the SB!

It is not possible to have VLS in the middle of Oliver H. Perry class. since in that part of the ship there will be engines there. and they take up much space.

- What I would do with such a Stretched ship and let the superstructure be as original, so you get a large foredeck, where I will place a tactical 48cell VLS behind the 76mm cannon, the hull will not be able to carry more than that.

- Those Harpoon can you place behind that funnel.

- Enlarge the funnel because you will need at least 7000 hp extra to get a speed around 25-27 knots!

So you have to expect that she would lie much deeper in the water, because you need to reinforce the hull to be able to carry herself and that she will not crack. for the extra weight you can increase the hp with 2000 more!

So what you will get is a ship that has poor performance on the water, which needs at least 50,000 hp to manage 26 knots, 60,000 hp gets to do 29 knots!

so what I would have to do is take a Spruance class and made her 20 meter shorter in the middle of her redecorating everything in the ship which will cost more than building a new ship, or go to the British pay a couple of million extra for some Fregate and still save money.

The good (and this massively outweighs the not so good):
Other than the wrongly colored gangway you are spot on for shipbucket style. You've got quite a few parts that are out of date (ie newer versions of items such as the gun, the ECM kit, the radars, the SM-2, ect. have been drawn), but that does not mean you didn't follow shipbucket style.

The not so good:
Heuhen hit the nail on the head to a certain degree. The biggest factor is that the Perry's structure was 'shrinkwraped' for lack of a better term around the systems that she embarked. I do give you credit for not trying to place the Mk-41 VLS where the Mk-13 GMLS went.

Great first go at shipbucket style! Heck I'm not sure my current drawings are that close to being the right style. As far as the idea itself...

This class is appealing to try and update, but consider why they exist. This ship was designed as a "cheap" general escort at a time when the USN was building massively expensive and sophisticated guided missile cruisers and destroyers. (Like we still do today). This ship was designed to be cheap and easy to mass produce, and I don't think her designers were really concerned with futureproofing them. They are good utility warships, and tough too! Stark took two Exocets and was able to make a safe harbor under her own power (a good crew helps too.)
A good thought (and perhaps an artistic test if your willing), imagine what a 2011 design around the same concepts might look like?

The Roberts hit a mine and had her keel broken. That`s how tough these small and insignificant ships are.

And she's still in service. Breaking the keel of ships many times results in a sunken ship. That's tough enough for me.

Well, it did take 13 months to repair her and I guess the reason they didn't scrap her has more to do with symbolism than economy, but yeah they're tough little buggers.

The are indeed tough nuts not to crack, especially of you compare them to the Burke. Look at the damage the Stark and Roberts took, then compare it to the damage on the Cole.

The Cole was hit by a approximately 700lb shaped charge. That's quite a bit more than the 253lb charge of an M-08 contact mine.
