Welcome to shipbucket!

This is not a bad start by any means. A couple of things I would change: you could move the radar up into the mast or on a special platform to give it a better field of view. The rear 15cm gun might damage the gun mount beneath it or hurt its crew when firing, so either add a blast shield or move the top gun backwards a bit. The freeboard is also a bit low and the front gun would probably be unusable in heavier weather. A ship of this era would definitely have some sort of inflatable rafts or lifeboats for its crew and some lighter cannon or machine guns for defense against aircraft.

Thanks for the feedback, I wasn't trying to design the best ship as it was more of a dip to test the water before diving in.

However I have tried to rectify most, if not all, the points you mentioned as you can see below.

Additions/Changes:
8 Small Life Rafts
2 Single mount 2 cm/70 Flak 28 Midships
Blast shield for rear gun crew
Extended freeboard
Radar moved atop mast
1 Signalling/Search Light

Hope you like the changes for the better, and thanks for the feedback! :D

may I ask why the guns arrangement is not mirrored forward and aft?

I ask of you to prove me wrong. Not say I am wrong, but prove it, because then I will have learned something new.

The reasoning in my head was to give the widest possible firing arc to at least one of each type of the main armament.

Probably not ideal I know.

Welcome to shipbucket!

A few questions ?

- date of ship ? (I presume 1944+ from the 5.5cm ?)

- Not sure about moving radar up it might have parts in the cabin below and long cables may not work in WW2 era, I think it will need a box below it. (Its also going to be heavy to put that high)

- Why the 15cm gun ? I would prefer twin 105mm guns and why the stern gun above the 5.5cm ?

- Add more 20mm (maybe quads ? 1944+ is not going to be very nice and calm air wise for this ship ?)

- What are the requirements for the ship ? its mission ?

you will have time to turn v a surface target but not v air so I think the 5.5cm need the best arcs. (especially post 1944+)

Date of design January 1945.

15cm Guns because its the first thing that popped into my head.

Requirements are for low intensity coastal patrol. Always within 100km of shore was the idea, hence no life rafts originally.

Also I'd love to add more AAW, but at this point there isnt any room left! :D

As in OTL 1945 at the end of WW2 ? (or in peace time ?)

15cm guns (and only 2, on a very small moving ship) will be very slow to fire and will not hit as often as 4x 105mm

You will need boats to board ships for police missions (but OTL 45 you are in deep **** and its full scale war with AAW/ASufW/ASW)

You can always fit more light AA gun (just look at what got added to ships in OTL) The singles can become twins or quads and add more at deck level (extreme bow, under bow 5.5, single guns, under 15cm, extreme stern) note that this is not needed for low intensity work ;).

Fact is I can't answer most of your questions, as I never put that much thought into it. (Its just a test dive into shipbucket) :D

But... I will get to work on a JSB version

It's the things I don't think about that scupper most of my designs, but don't let that put you off just do many diffident options and pick the best bits.
