Hi guys, I have waterline drawings for the USS Enterprise screw Steamer from 1874, but I have a couple questions before I really get started with the beast of a project.

I know a lot of you use MS Paint to make your drawings, but as a Mac user, thats not an option. I have Sketch, which I use for my day-job as a UX designer, but I'm not sire I can get the right kind of lines with that.

The other issues I am trying to figure out, is how to draw the hull below the water line, since I don't have a drawing of that. I am going to try and post things as i progress, and get feedback.

Finally is there a parts sheet for 19th century US Navy ships?

Here's where I am so far

Well congrats for doing a sailing ship, I'd recommend not worrying about the below waterline part just yet as the rigging is generally the trickiest. As luck would have it I have the 11" and 9"USN Dahlgren gun drawn in SB sale though it is a side view rather than a frontal view which you'd need but it shouldn't be too hard to extrapolate the view from that

Welcome :)

Great to see a new person drawing 1) a real life ship, 2) a USN ship, and 3) a screw steamer! I don't really have much to add other than to check the FAQ on the site itself (it lists some open source options for SB drawing). Some of the other guys who are more knowledgeable about sailing ships can likely help with rigging etc.

Thanks guys! I just downloaded Gimp, and was going to start over and try it there, to get it closer to SB standards.

I gave up on Gimp, and went back to Sketch.

Another update. Got the hull, and masts done, just need to start working on details. Any idea bout the underwater hull color?

It might be your up-loader but image appears blurry (despite being a png file)

Re the underwater colour, it'll be either a brass colour (Muntz metal sheeting) or the colour of copper, more likely as the Americans stuck with copper into the 1870's IIRC

Finished the ship. I did my best to remove as much of the Anti-Aliasing that I could, its hard to find a good drawing program on Mac.

The first version is as built, and the second, is near the end of her career.
