A few months back, I made the switch from flying the 757/767 freighter to flying the A320 family with Canada's flag carrier. I saw Ukraineball's A319/A320 series and felt inspired to do the same for Air Canada. It turned out to be a time-consuming process, but I did my best to show all the major liveries from 1990 until now.

I used Ro-Po Max's excellent A320 as a base and modified it to include the A319 and the A321, so many thanks to Ro-Po Max for creating such a great base drawing to which I could clumsily apply some additional liveries. As always, comments and feedback are much appreciated - enjoy!

:o Beautiful series! Excellent work as always, congrats on the switch to the Airbus.

CANSA FC.20

Another Italian aircraft that should have been successful during WWII, but production delays meant it was never ready.

[ img ]

Initially developed as a light reconnaissance bomber, the first prototype flew in April 1941. A change of mission was proposed, and the aircraft redesigned for ground attack as the FC.20bis. The nose section was completely changed, allowing the fitting of a 37mm Breda cannon under the cockpit, and fitting of a dorsal turret. But only about 3 production aircraft were built and deployed to squadron service, and that only in 1943.
Meanwhile the original prototype was modified to fit a heavy long-barrelled cannon, and larger engines as the FC.20ter. Unfortunately the combination of glazed nose and big gun did not work well together, and vibration from the cannon's recoil damaged the nose section and the project was dropped.
The final version of the FC.20 was a production FC.20bis modified to fit the DB601 engine as the FC.20quater. With superior performance to the standard FC.20bis, the first flight was only in 1943 as Italy's Axis fortunes were fading, and so no further development was possible.

The TB-001, nicknamed "Twin-Tailed Scorpion", is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) designed by Sichuan Tengden. It is used by the People's Liberation Army.
In August 2021, the TB-001 was twice spotted in the East China Sea by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. In the first encounter, the TB-001 flew over the East China Sea unaccompanied, and in the second encounter it flew through the Miyako Strait alongside two Shaanxi Y-9 aircraft.
Saudi Arabia signed an agreement with Sichuan Tengoen Technology to locally produce its TB001A UAV as the Al Eqab-1, which is developed from the original TB-001 with an additional engine on the tail.

Savoia Marchetti SM.84 in Italian service

Developed as the successor to the SM.79, they were withdrawn from service before the last of the SM.79's.

[ img ]

In 1939 Savoia Marchetti started work on updating the SM.79 and flew the up-engined, twin-tailed SM.79bis in 1938. Further work redefined the fuselage and wings, and the production SM.84 was larger, more heavily armoured, and carried a greater warload than the SM.79. The type entered combat in February 1941 as both a bomber and torpedo bomber.
The performance of the SM.84 was unimpressive, with the aircraft not being as manoeuverable as the SM.79 and requiring greater skill to land. Evidently crews prefered the SM.79. Modifications to externally carry two torpedos lead to the SM.84bis model and production quickly switched. Meanwhile work on the SM.79 led to an upengined dedicated torpedo bomber version, which was superior to the SM.84, and the SM.84 drifted into irrelevance in the face of the massive numbers of SM.79's.
At the time of the Italian Armistice and German take-over, SM.84's were on both sides of the demarkation line. Some aircraft now served with the Italian Co-belligerent Air Force as transports.
The Germans captured about 100 aircraft, but did not impress them into Luftwaffe service, instead selling many to Slovakia.
A single SM.84 was modified as the SM.84ter with more powerful engines, but was written off in a crash in 1946, and by 1948 all aircraft had been retired.

Savoia Marchetti SM.84 in Slovak service

Slovakia was Italy's only export customer for the SM.84.

[ img ]

Although Slovakia had been a staunch ally to Germany and had invaded SW Poland in September 1939, Germany had been reticent in providing combat materiel to Slovakia. But in 1943 Italy offered the SM.84, and Slovakia agreed to purchase 20 aircraft and support equipment. Three aircraft had been supplied before the Italian armistice halted further deliveries.
After the German take-over of northern Italy, Slovak negotiations led to the supply of the remaining 17 aircraft from the contract from captured stock. These aircraft were delivered only in July 1944.
With the Slovak National Uprising, Germany destryed most of the SM.84's, although 1 aircraft flew a rebel delegation to the USSR in September 1944.
