According to these sources, Russia offered Tu-22M3 in India and Russian Tu-22M3 flown in Indian Bases: http://www.defencetalk.com/russia-offer ... ndia-4373/ http://sajeevpearlj.blogspot.gr/2014/06 ... -22-m.html What if the Tu-22M3 is in service with Indian Navy? The reason I did this is that the Backfire is one of my favorit Soviet/Russian aircraft and the design had been waiting in my computer since previous Christmas. Eight airframes purchased in 2002 with Kh-15 missiles, later Brahmos missile integrated to the aircraft (weapon load of Tu-22M3 allows for 4 missiles, due to four 3-ton capable pylons) and Club missiles will follow in the future. Rumors said that Indian Backfire's can also launch Sea Eagle (I read that they did this in their Tu-142M's). In this scenario Indian Navy has also TSR-2 (not sure about Tu-142M and Il-38 yet). Another AU Backfire (could not resist) in service with RHNA. But I think the Backfire is too large and expensive to operate for Hellenic Kingdom. The Martin Seamaster does the job perfectly. Note that the Kh-15 missile has been integrated into RHNA's P6M, each of four airframes modified can carry total 12 missiles internally. |
