While nibbling through my backlog of older projects, I decided to revisit what could have been my entry for the Cold War bomber challenge last year that I never got to finish, and redid it from scratch, closest to what I've originally envisioned. Mostly an evaluation design before I try to further flesh out the series. Never really felt confident with how I've shaded and contoured the top view, but yeah.

And when I said it was supposed to be an upscaled aircraft design, guess what was the inspiration?

Very nice work, a sleek looking strike aircraft.

I am getting hints of TSR.2 in this design. ;)

Hi wb!

That's a real beauty, and really well drawn. Rather better than my own entry in the cold war bomber challenge, I have to admit.

Greetings
GD

Looks like a large Hawker P.1129.

I really like this design - it gives me French vibes with the air intake half-cones, but the large, sweeping vertical stabilizer with the (presumably?) ECM antenna feels very distinctively Russian in influence. This design really blends several different influences well to become something that feels unique and not overly derived from one specific real-world aircraft.

As to the shading on the top view - I do see some awkward portions which could be fixed. If the illumination is coming from the top right, as it appears to be, than the shading on the horizontal stabilizers would appear to be reversed. The left (top) stabilizer should be in light, while the right (bottom) stabilizer should be in shadow. If you wanted to go into greater detail, the vertical stabilizer should also cast a shadow along the fuselage towards the aft right side of the aircraft and right horizontal stabilizer.

So I had a bit of a stroke of g̶e̶n̶i̶u̶s̶ madness, and was overcome by an intense desire to know what might happen if the US Navy in, say, 1943 contracted Douglas to produce a carrier-based ASW version of their venerable A-20/DB-7 family of twin-engine aircraft. This is what I came up with:

Douglas S1D Hunter

Obviously this is an extremely unrealistic idea, as such an aircraft would be too large to easily move around a Yorktown or Essex Class carrier on a regular basis, if it was even capable of operations from such a vessel in the first place.

Enjoy!

Even if unrealistic, the drawing is still excellent and the concept interesting - great work!

Douglas S1D-2/S-1B Hunter

A continuation of my previous post, extrapolating the aircraft's configuration in 1952 and 1960. By 1960, I imagine VS-23 would be the last unit operating the type and would be primarily operating them for training purposes.

Still utterly ridiculous, this time arguably more so than the last one.
