Hello again I know that plane was somewhat notorious for having suffered a higher percentage of crashes than the German F-104G, but for some reason I really like her looks… Supermarine Scimitar F.1 carrierborne strike fighter, in service on RN carriers between 1958 and 1966. ![[ img ]](https://i.postimg.cc/g071NcvK/Scimitar.png) Although originally designed as a fighter, that mantle was taken by the missile-armed Sea Vixen, which also showed better high altitude performance. Scimitars were used in the tactical strike role instead; they excelled at low altitudes. The plane below mounts four 1.000lb bombs and was based on HMS Centaur, which was way too small to operate an aircraft of such size and weight; Centaur's and Hermes's scimitars were particularly prone to landing accidents. ![[ img ]](https://i.postimg.cc/651V77wz/Scimitar-F1-strike.png) For anti-shipping missions, Scimitars could carry four Bullpup missiles. The plane below was based on HMS Victorious, whose deck was only marginally better suited to Scimitar's size; she also suffered plenty of accidents to her air group. ![[ img ]](https://i.postimg.cc/d18nrJn3/Scimitar-F1-missile.png) All Scimitars could have their noses replaced with a recce nose mounting three cameras. The recce nose lacked the aerial refueling probe (I think; I have not found any picture showing both, but I certainly have not seen them all). The plane below mounts four auxiliary fuel tanks and was based on HMS Eagle; she and Ark Royal were better suited to operating Scimitar, but unfortunately they were the first carriers to replace them with the even larger Buccaneer. ![[ img ]](https://i.postimg.cc/0Qddrc2J/Scimitar-F1-recce.png) Scimitar was also capable of delivering nukes; in that role, a single Red Beard bomb (code-named Target Marker, British understatement at its best) was slung under one wing, with an auxiliary tank under the other for balance.
