Real Hellas did produced 9X25 Mauser round for MP34 SMG of police, so in my scenario my SMG EPK25 would be in this caliper. Post war this ammunition will continue for Aris SMG, while pistols and Micro Aris remain in classic 9X19.
The Mauser round is consider obsolete, but I believe it could be developed further.

Well so long as you can be sure you can maintain production there's no reason not to go down that route.

A Thompson variant rechambered for 9x25 would be better than a 0.45?

Well 9mm x25 will push a 128gr FMJ @1362FPS with 534ft-lbs muzzle energy compared to 365ft-lbs for a .45 230gr FMJ @ 845FPS... There's no comparison to my mind between them.

So the 9x25 has more stopping power? Its faster and seem to deliver more energy. What about accuracy and range?

Well. Barrel length and rate of twist is going to affect your accuracy as well as the actual bullets. Range wise that's somewhat arbitrary with SMGs unless your Czech (they seemed to think you could use them as squad support weapons). But considering the speed and lightness of the bullet you're probably going to be fine on the sorts of ranges SMGs are used at.

Thank you both, that is interesting information on a fascinating subject. (They don't normally tell you this stuff on TV, just how to make it go bang.)

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a bit of a daft question, but with the higher muzzle energy, would the recoil mechanism still work as well? I seem to recall that recoil mechanisms from the lighter stuff don't always work terribly well with higher-energy cartridges, but I don't know enough about the 9x25 to know if that's too much for the Thompson...

You'd need to modify the gun accordingly, but the Mauser export did see use in a couple of different successful sub-machine guns.

In theory the modifications wouldn't/shouldn't be too severe as the BSA Thompsons were offered in 7.63mm x25 from which the 9mm is derived which is once again faster firing and more energetic.
