Well, I'll go with the experts, and the historical judgement So, yes, it has to be the Mustang - the best 'all round' fighter that arrived at the right moment. Designed by the fledgling North American Aviation to a British requirement.

BTw, I notice you've allowed 'other' that can include any type? So this cannot deliver a fair vote as it is now including more than one type.

I'll be going with the MB.5. It's essentially what I always wished the Mustang to be. Have the angry growl of a Griffon, four 20mm and a contra-prop. Shame the British aircraft industry has gone down the pan since then.

Isn`t the Bearcat the ultimate piston-powered fighter ever? Faster and more manouverable than the Hellcat. Actually, the Bearcat is the fastest piston-powered plane ever with a speed of 860 km/h for the Rare Bear racer. Only beaten by the TU-114 turboprop with 880 km/h. The standard military issue Bearcat has flown 840 km/h, that is very fast for a good armed, wello armored plane with long range capability.

F8F good armed ? no ... he have only 4x50 cals with most of his counters use 20 mm cannons. Fastes piston ? also no ... Sea Fury was better. F8F-2 max speed was 730 km/h not 840 km/h. He was not good armed, not well armored, but indeed with good range.

EDIT: models B and F-2 fly with 20 mm cannons ... and then Bearcat start to be good gun fighter.

CAC Kangaroo just looks nice and sleek, had a decently long range(double that of the Spiteful IIRC), was fast, carried a medium payload and was developed by a nation which really wasn't doing much in combat aircraft development
