Sad end for a proud ship.

The only sad thing was the fact that the idiots in goverment spent good money on a major refit, then decided to lay her up. if every old warship was preserved we'd be seeing hundreds of them clogging up the docks; also, by preserving her we'd loose the name to any future warships - and that really would be a shame!

Read on the BBC yesterday that the MOD plans that Illustrious will be preserved as a momument to the class. Don't hold your breath that will happen though.

So now there's no more CV in active service within RN?

I read somewhere that they might rename PoW Ark Royal.

If we really need 2 supercarriers, why has the RN been left so short in that dept for the next 5 years?

Massive waste of money, I think. Better to buy a couple of old wasps off the US!
