He was a great man. I really hope there will be a Red Storm Rising movie... I imagine him smoking cigars with Reagan and Churchill in heaven as we speak.....

While I get annoyed by his books' flag-waving hyperpatriotism (which from some point - see Bear and the Dragon, for example - grew IMHO to clinically pure jingoism), and by his characterizations of most Eastern-Bloc characters (behaving like a stereotypical "jungle-born barbarian in New York" :rolls: ), I really enjoyed the plots of his books (the "Ryanverse", not those ghostwritten).

Yes, his books were generally just crap to read on the plane, but I liked them nonetheless. I never felt like the "enemy" side got a fair shake... but then again, it's a Clancy book. ;)

Some of the early stuff was interesting and insightful. The later stuff, not so much. In any case, I'm glad I read what he gave us and he'll be missed by friends and family.

Since the evil empire is no more, I don't hold much hope.

66 seems a bit young?

Love to see the film but it would need to be about 10 hours long. 8-)

Hey there,

I once started to read "The teeth of the TIGER" and did not finishe it because I don't like the "Just kill the bad guys because they diserve it" ans the "we are the good guys so we are above the law" Attitudes of his caracters. But then I buoght the audiobook version of "The Hunt for Red Oktober" and was exited. There are some translation errors in the german version but it is okay.
At the Moment I am listening to "The Bear and the Dragon" and I am a bit confused about the fact that countries like russia, poland are still afraid of Germany evan Jack Ryan states concerns about Germany. Since the plot of the book is set in the late 90s I am wondering if that is realistic.
Beeing a german officer I like to ask this international comunity for your thought about Germany. Do you think Germany is still a military danger to its neighbours?

I just re-read Red Storm Rising and The Hunt for Red October. Red October is a bit corny in places but both are otherwise really good, very readable books.

No - I think its neighbors are a danger to it - fairly soon you guys will be supporting the entire Eurozone with your tax dollars. ;)
