The USS Independence- One of the US Navy's newest warships built from the recycled steel of the World Trade Center. I saw this on a site I was browsing through and was intrigued by the hull design. Could a similar hull design be used on CV's to make them more stable? I am interested in whether a multi-hull CV would be viable? USS Gerald Ford, the first in her class, still at least a few years away from becoming operational (I am not sure of the date of this photo) |

That pic dates October 11th 2013, a month before her official launch. Her commissioning should come this year if I'm not wrong, although her actual entry into service is still many months away.

this hull shape works quite well for fast ships, where it allows an very large deck area with relatively little hull in the water. the stability then comes from the width between the hulls, allowing an very sharp midship hull. however, to have any use for it, you have to have an relatively light ship. Because of that, I doubt it has a lot value for an carrier.
