Awesome, though expect China to get flustered

How to mentally pronounce my usernameRow-(as in a boat)Don-(as in the short form of Donald)Dough-(bread)
"Loitering on the High Seas" (Named after the good ship Rodondo)

There's no such thing as "nothing left to draw" If you can down 10 pints and draw, you're doing alright by my standards

Of course, but I think Japan actually attempted to appease them on this one. If they really wanted to rattle the saber with China, they could've named the new ship Iwate. I was pretty surprised they didn't, actually.

Hangers and lifts. Check those for clearance.

It is my understanding that they are large enough - as is the deck strength.

Cite sources? My understanding was that dimensionally the safety limits are not adequate on these ships for the F-35 (It's a flying blowtorch.), but I'm always open to better information.

it being a flying blowtorch has very little to do with hangar and elevator size :P
izumo hangar height: 22ft.
F-35 height: 14.2 ft
takeoff weight is close to that of an CH-47 or an Osprey, aircraft it seems likely to have designed the ship around. with the side elevator, it should be no problem to lower an aircraft that size into the hangar as well.
so, the only real factor why this vessel would not be able to take the F-35B (in theory, that is) is indeed the blowtorch factor: can it take the concentrated heated blast from the engine. the only ones who can answer that question are the people who actually build the thing, because I doubt that information will be made public before they decide to actually put some F-35B on board.

The jet issues can be manged with the improved surface coatings the US is refitting our LHDs with. Ace noted the hanger height isn't going to be an issue.

That's not my understanding at all.

Reiterated.

If the Americans are still having troubles as of April 2015, then the Japanese cannot, I write again, cannot operate the bird within acceptable safety margins. The USS America was supposedly designed with that flying blow torch in mind.

No way an Izumo has the same kind of facilities to handle STOVL aircraft.

With the Americans talking about ceramic landing matts and flame diverters as quick fixes, my question I respectfully submit, has not been answered.
