Thing looks like a floating Star Destroyer. Definitely not a worthy replacement for the Iowa-class BBs, which they were initially touted to be.

Man, we need to update the drawing in the archive!

It's been dreadfully hard trying to get good line drawings of Zumwalt, though.

Now all the US needs is for the ISIS Navy to intercept it....

Still Mk44 30mm Bushmasters.

Also, the hatches for the Mk57 VLS are flush with the deck.

Having hatches flush with the deck is good for stealth, while I think downsizing from 57mm to 30mm secondary guns is not a bright idea.

I think the main problem is the gas-turbines. With the navy already planning railguns and lasers for the Ford class carriers (hence the hugantic reactors) I can't see the Zumwalts having much of a future. Instead I think a lot of the knowledge gained during their designs will be passed onto a future cruiser-class vessel. This future ship will see guided missles cruisers and destroyers blend together (the Zumwalt is already dramatically larger than a Ticonderoga class cruiser).

In the future, we will likely see a new fleet of cruisers built that combine DDG and CG classes together. These ships will likely weigh in around 25k tons and some of the former roles of destroyers will fall to littoral combat ships. All to accommodate a nuclear reactor.

Krakatoa, the Turtle would need a pretty stout drill bit to cut into the hull. *lol*

No need for a drill, just replace it with a shaped-charge warhead, which will be more effective against modern warship hulls.
